A group of concerned public school teachers of the Schools Division of Island Garden City of Samal posted the ‘Act of Kindness Challenge’ in social media. This is in response to Republic Act 11469 otherwise known as the “Bayanihan to Heal as One Act”.

It started on April 9 when teachers were invited to take part by voluntarily donating at least 1K each volunteer. This was made possible by creating a group chat in Facebook/Messenger where everyone who pledged to support the challenge were added to keep track of the record and progress of the initiative.

In less than 24 hours of posting the challenge, the collectible amount already reached to 80K. There were assigned teachers in each district to receive the cash donations from the volunteers. The collection lasted until April 16.

To date, the total amount collected reached 118K and it was turned over to the City Government of IGaCoS on April 17 with the hope of contributing to the effort of the LGU in addressing the COVID-19 crisis. (By Hazel Jane A. Villegas, Penaplata CES)
